Conference Session

Mike and I got to go to a session of General Conference yesterday.
Before the session we went to a social for the J. Reuban Clark Law Society.
It's good for Mike to be able to network as much as he can.
Then we went to the Conference center for the afternoon session.
We were pretty close. It was a wonderful meeting.
After our session was done we went and got some food and then met Noah and Dallin. They had driven up to meet up with Mike for the Priesthood session. I took the Suburban and met up with my mom and sisters. My mom brought Grace and Anna with her too. We did a little shopping and then got some ice cream at Cold Stone...I had to get my ice cream and leave because I realized that I had Mike's car key with me...oh boy. So I drove all the way back up to Salt Lake so that they wouldn't be stranded.

Even with that hiccup in our plans, the day was a good day and we really enjoyed the sessions that we attended.
...and we learned not to put Mike's car key in my purse!

General Conference

We were able to take the kids to the Saturday afternoon session of General Conference. They were all very excited to go, and despite a few little hiccups getting in, thankfully Mike was there with a cool head on his shoulders since I tend to panic and become pessimistic...I know you thought I was perfect, sorry :)

Anyway, it was a wonderful session...it would've been nice to have closer seats, but it was still neat to be
there in person.

Here are some of the things that stood out to me throughout the conference weekend

Jeffery R. Holland
There is a crucial difference in forgiving sin and condoning it.
Be strong, live the gospel, defend your beliefs with courtesy and compassion, but defend them.

Russell M. Nelson
Faith is the antidote for fear.
Let your faith show.
Keeping diving commandments brings blessing every time.
God's laws must ever be our standards.
Even if everyone is doing it, wrong is never right.

Richard G. Scott
Focus your life on the basic principles.
Be simplistic as you share the gospel.

While singing "We Thank Thee, O God, For A Prophet" in the Saturday afternoon session, I felt the Spirit very strongly. Glad to be in the presence of President Monson.

Robert D. Hales
Be careful who you follow.
Don't practice selective obedience.
Why do we choose to be disobedient when we know what is right?
Rationalizing disobedience does not change the consequences.
God will confound the enemies of the church in His own due time
(That last one really stood out to me because before we entered the conference center there was a man standing out there yelling at everyone and quoting a scripture from the Doctrine & Covenents about how God will confound the enemies of the church, then this man yelled that he didn't feel confounded. Elder Hales quoted the same exact scripture and added the above statement.)

Claudio D. Zivic
The story of trying to get to Delicate Arch was great.

W. Craig Zwick
Destructive words can take a situation from hazardous to fatal.
Be willing to see things from someone else's perspective.

Quentin L. Cook
We need to get our kids involved more in family history.

Dieter F. Uchtdorf
Instead of being thankful for things, focus on being thankful in our situation.
Live in gratitude.
We can choose to be grateful no matter what.

M. Russell Ballard
Replace fear with faith.
Be more consistenly involved in missionary work.
Read Preach My Gospel.

Jean A. Stevens
Follow promptings.
The gospel is not a check list of things to do.
The gospel is not a weight it is wings.

Gary E. Stevenson
Encouraging other won't make our performance in this life fail, it can help us both win.

David A. Bednar
There is nothing you will ever confront in mortality that the Savior did not suffer.

President Monson
Love is the very essence of the gospel.
Love should be at the heart of family life.
Blame keeps wounds open, only forgiveness heals.

William R. Walker
Our kids need to know more family stories.

Lawrence E. Corbridge
Truth will always be opposed

Michael John U. Teh
Where your treasure is, there is your heart.

There is always so much that I take from General Conference. I'm so thankful that we have a living Prophet today to guide and direct us in our journey to get back to our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. The easy part is listening to them and feeling the Spirit...the hard part is getting to work and doing all that we should. I know that we are all works in progress and I'm just thankful for the love and patience of our Father and the infinite atonement of the Savior that makes it possible for us to repent and try to be better each day.

General Conference Weekend

General Conference weekend was nice.

I made homemade cinnamon rolls.
I used a recipe from my friend Jacque Munns.
They turned out quite yummy!
Between sessions the kids and I, along with some of my family, drove what they call the Alpine Loop.
It was so beautiful!
Sorry for the overload of scenic pictures, but I just liked them all :)
(Let me know if you have a favorite, I'm considering getting one printed to hang on the wall)
 The kids enjoyed the ride.
Loved these pictures of Isaac and Anna...
complete with photobomb by Dallin :)
We had to stop and let them get out once because Isaac
and Anna needed to touch the snow :)
Conference was wonderful, and as is always the case, I heard many things that truly touched my heart.
I'm thankful that they put the talks in the Ensign so that we can have them to read and re-read and
continue to learn from.

I was impressed with my kids too. They (especially the older ones) really paid attention and took notes of their own without me even asking them to.

Some things that stuck out to me from conference:

Look ahead and believe.
Work together more.
Don't work for your own glory and recognition.
It's not what we have done or where we have been, but where we are willing to go.
A grateful person is rich in contentment.
Doubt your doubts before you doubt your faith.
Accepting and magnifying callings can bring joy to our families.
Mans law doesn't change God's law.
Being truly converted means we live it.
The Lord sees weakness differently than rebellion.
Choose activities you can attend together as a couple.
Some addictions may not necessarily be evil, but if they take too much time away from family then...
Avoid bondage of any kind.
Everyone can have their home blessed by Priesthood power.
Sometimes using all our strength means asking for help.
(Loved the story of the little boy trying to move the rock.)
Each time you look in the mirror see your body as your temple for your spirit.
How you use your body affects your spirit.
