Honey, I Shrunk the Kids!

Actually, these are just giant weeds that have overtaken part of our backyard.
Embarrassing...I know!
To clarify the weeds weren't actually in the yard, they were back by the fence and the fruit trees.
They wouldn't have gotten that bad if we could have just mowed over them, ha ha!

Anyway, say what you will, sometimes you mean to get to things and then you don't.
Or your life is in such upheaval that some things don't matter...until they do :)
I knew that we needed to get rid of a good portion of the weeds in the backyard,
so I finally forced my kids to work and my mom is just a saint so she helped us.
P.S. You know this weed is tall if it's taller than Dallin!

My dad is awesome too...he hauled away a bunch of weeds and other trash for us!
As we were working we would come across the exact same weed in it's small form
Check out this little weed...this is what we should have been taking care of all along instead of letting them grow to this...
There's an object lesson in there somewhere :)

Conference Session

Mike and I got to go to a session of General Conference yesterday.
Before the session we went to a social for the J. Reuban Clark Law Society.
It's good for Mike to be able to network as much as he can.
Then we went to the Conference center for the afternoon session.
We were pretty close. It was a wonderful meeting.
After our session was done we went and got some food and then met Noah and Dallin. They had driven up to meet up with Mike for the Priesthood session. I took the Suburban and met up with my mom and sisters. My mom brought Grace and Anna with her too. We did a little shopping and then got some ice cream at Cold Stone...I had to get my ice cream and leave because I realized that I had Mike's car key with me...oh boy. So I drove all the way back up to Salt Lake so that they wouldn't be stranded.

Even with that hiccup in our plans, the day was a good day and we really enjoyed the sessions that we attended.
...and we learned not to put Mike's car key in my purse!

What Isaac learned yesterday

Do not take your brother's pocket knife to school
Do not take said pocket knife out during recess to show it to your friends

Because if you do
you will go to the principal's office
he will call your mom
and you will be suspended
What he learned today...

that being suspended from school is not fun

I don't think I ever thought one of my kids would be suspended from school...on the positive side, I have to be thankful that he didn't get suspended for being mean or bad, or hurting anyone or anything like that. The principal said that is why he is only getting 2 days because he knows that Isaac wasn't trying to use it or hurt anyone, but still it's a weapon and he has to take some action.

I have to say though that Isaac was so cute in the principal's office and his apology was very sweet.

Today he had a hard time not being able to do anything fun...At one point he even asked why he was my slave! I'm sure that tomorrow will be just as un-fun for him!
...it's not so fun for me either :(

Pinewood Derby

The Annual Cub Scout Pinewood Derby for our pack was held tonight. Noah and Dallin each designed their own cars. They had a good time coming up with ideas. Noah decided to do a cell phone and he named his car "Motoroller."
Dallin wanted his name on his car. It took him about 5 or 6 times to get the letters the way he wanted them, but he didn't give up.
Both cars turned out great. They were not very aerodynamic though, and neither one performed very well. Both boys were disappointed a little, Noah especially since it was his last Pinewood Derby. In the car on the way home, we talked about the experience. I was so impressed with their attitudes, they both chose to find postive things about the night. By the time we got home they were happy and already talking about next time. Dallin even told Noah that if he wins , he'll give the medal to Noah. Then they started talking about working on a car together for next year and sharing the award they will win. I love the change in attitude that happened with them and I am so proud of they way they both decided to deal with not winning the race. What great boys I have!
