Artwork by Dallin

Dallin drew this to give to one of his friends.
I really like it and I'm glad he would let me take a picture of it before he gave it away.

Art Show

Walked through the art show at the elementary school yesterday
to see Isaac and Anna's work from the year.
The school does The Great Artist Program.
They take famous pieces of art and talk about them with the kids
and then teach them techniques and have the kids recreate or interpret those works of art.
Then they let the kids choose which ones they want to display.
Some of the pieces they did this year...
Deer's Skull with Pedernal by Georgia O'Keeffe
 Tulips by Pierre-Auguste Renoir
Palm Tree, Nassau by Winslow Homer
Below you can see Isaac's Tulips and Deer's Skull
Anna's Tulips and Palm Tree

Love my little artists!

Art Show

The Elementary school had an art show to display the students art from their Great Artists program. They choose some famous pieces of art and work with the kids to recreate them.

This year the works of art chosen were...
The Singing Fish by Joan Miro

Sail Boats by Vincent Van Gogh

Campbell's Soup Can by Andy Warhol

The Green Dancer by Edgar Degas

Mediterranean Landscape by Pablo Picasso
Lighthouse at Two Lights

Each kid did 5 out of the 6 pieces, but for the show they chose 2 to display
Anna displayed her soup can and her mediterranean landscape
Isaac did the singing fish and lighthouse at two lights
(Isaac's lighthouse picture was hung so high on the wall that Grace had to try and hold him up for the picture and it wasn't easy for her, so we got a blurry picture, but we laughed a lot)

Grace's lighthouse at two lights and green dancer
I love this program and I think these works of art will be so fun for them to look at when they are older and to show their kids someday :)

GrACE of Cakes!

I got to participate in a mother/daughter cake decorating activity with Grace. The theme was flowers. We had a great time working on our cake together.
Grace did most of the shaping of the tulips. We rolled out starburst candies and then cut them into flowers. We rolled out green gum drops for the leaves. The stems are green pull-apart Twizzlers.

Where's Anna?

Anna's project to celebrate the 100th day of school.

I got the great idea from my friend Frances, who's daughter Lilian luckily had her 100th day a few days before us and so I could steal borrow her idea.

Anna loved doing this project. While we were coloring she just kept saying, "This is fun!" and "I love this!"

I had her draw 10 different girls then we outlined them with a Sharpie and made 10 copies of each girl. Then Anna chose colors for each girl and Grace and I helped her color them all. Then for extra fun we took one of the girls out and replaced it with an individual girl that Anna drew to look like her and put it in the mix...kind of like Where's Waldo.
Did you find Anna?

If not...here she is :)

*I have to say that the only thing that was disappointing was that she came home from her 100th day in tears. Why? you may ask...well it turns out that they ran out of time and she didn't get to present her project...she was so sad. It kind of frustrates me that her teacher didn't plan better. Kids get so excited about stuff like this. I'm not sure if it's true or not, but she told me that she was the only one who didn't get to present their project...and honestly whether it's true or not, it's the way she saw it, and the way she felt.
...didn't mean to end on a negative note...sorry!

**UPDATE**
Just wanted to let you know that Anna was able to present her project in class 2 days later (I'm sure it would have been the next day, but they didn't have school that day) ...I still hold to my statement though, that teachers shouldn't tell the kids that they will all present on THE day and then not follow through.

Some Cakes I Made

I was asked to make some cakes for a Birthday/Halloween party last weekend. I spend most of Friday making and decorating them. I think they turned out ok...I'm not a professional, but I have fun with it.

The Birthday cake.
The Halloween cakes.

I think the bloody eyeball cake is my personal favorite of the three :)

County Art Show

On the 4th of November we went to a county art show where Grace received recognition for her artwork. Only six students from each Elementary school were given awards. We are so proud of her and know there are many more works of art to come.
This is the artwork that she got the certificate for. I love it!
She is such a great little artist!

Little Artist

The other day Grace came home from school, so excited, with this...

She took 3rd place in the county fair for abstract art. She even got a check for 3 dollars. She is and has always been such a little artist. We are so proud of her.
Way to go Gracie!
