Cub Scout Bike Ride

Our pack had a bike ride for pack meeting last month. Everyone rode 2 miles, but some of us rode 4. I was proud of my kids, they did a great job and rode all 4 miles! (I put my helmet on after the picture.)

We rode on a section of the "Rails to Trails" trail. These are trails that used to be rail road tracks. It was a great place to ride. I think we'll go back as a family.

Good-bye training wheels!

Anna learned how to ride without training wheels last Thursday. I have been trying to post about it since, but I'm having trouble with the video...so I decided to go ahead and just post with a couple pictures.

She picked it up very quickly, she is such a determined little girl and she didn't give up.

She is so excited and is constantly asking to ride her bike now...even if it's pouring down rain!

And in the time it's taken me to post this she's already graduated to a bigger bike!

Way to go Anna!

Trike-a-thon

Today was the annual Trike-a-thon at Anna's preschool. She has been looking forward to it all week, and was so excited that it was finally here. We had a great time cheering for her and her preschool friends. She did a great job, never tiring or slowing down. Dad kept track of her laps on her little card. Last year she did 10 laps, this year... 37!

Here is video clip of one of her laps...

...if you watch it 37 times it will be like you were there!

Way to go Anna!

Camping at Point Lookout

On Friday and Saturday we went camping with our friends, the Hayes family and the Huels family. We camped at Point Lookout State Park in Maryland. We had a really great time, we had some rain but it didn't ruin our fun. We brought our bicycles and rode quite a lot. This was great for Grace. The day before we left she graduated up to a bigger bicycle, the camping trip gave her a lot of opportunities to master her newfound skill. The 2 mile bike ride to the light house was a little bit long for her so she rode in the bike trailer on the way back. We got to do some crabbing while we were there and the kids really liked it. They each caught a few, most of them hopped off the line before reaching the surface, but you could still see them. Here is a shot of Noah with one on his line. We rented some canoes too. The kids had a lot of fun taking turns going for rides. Here are all of the kids waiting to get in the canoes. And here you can see some of them in the canoes.

Here is a huge nest that we saw while at the pier. The kids thought it was pretty cool.We spent some time at the beach also. I think almost all of the kids experienced getting stung by a jellyfish, but they kept getting in the water and had fun anyway. Noah got a jellyfish on the big frisbee. The boys marked off a lot of cub scout requirements while we were there too.
I have so many fond memories of camping with my family when I was little. It's fun to see my kids experience some of the same things.
We really had a wonderful time and look forward to planning another camping trip soon.I'll just have to remind Isaac for the next few days that we have a bathroom and he doesn't need to pee outside.
Saturday night we did some fireworks at our house, since they weren't allowed at the campground.

Grace on Two Wheels

Today Grace decided to try again to ride a bike without training wheels. She is still working on it, but I think she's got the basics. It's just a matter of time now before she is going strong. While we were practicing it started to rain very lightly. Isaac said, "Grace I felt a raindrop!" "It's not enough to stop me, " she replied. We had to take 2 popsicle breaks from all that hard work. Way to go Grace! Thanks Maren for inspiring her!

By the way, you won't hear any sound on the video clip because the kids said that I was a little obnoxious on it. What! I was just cheering her on, but I don't want to embarrass them, so you can cheer her on while you watch it.
