Noah's Ice Cream Challenge

Last night my brother challenged Noah to eat a carton of freezer burnt ice cream in 7 minutes.
There were several times when I thought he'd lose it in the trash can...
and I think he thought he might too :)
Ultimately, he did it and felt awful, but was glad to collect his winnings.
I think he got 7 dollars :)
Crazy kid!

Spelling Bee

Dallin was one of 17 students (out of 143 who tried) to make it to the finals of the spelling bee for his school.
He didn't win, but he did a good job.

I thought it was kind of ironic that "extinguish" was the word he got out on.
And I knew he knew how to spell it too...he totally just left out the 2nd "i" and thought he had said it.

Isaac's First Pinewood Derby

The Pinewood Derby...
The Isom boys have never had much luck winning, and I'm not talking about winning the whole thing, I'm talking about winning even 1 of their heats.

We have just not had great success...but we have had a great time making the cars!
Here's a look at the cars we've made over the years
Noah's first car back in 2007
Noah and Dallin in 2008
Noah and Dallin in 2009
Dallin's last car in 2010
This year Isaac and I started tossing around ideas for his car and I thought of Han Solo in Carbonite...had no idea how we would execute it, but thought it would be cool. Isaac absolutely loved the idea. We searched the internet for pictures and started trying to figure out a way to do it.

Well we figured out a pretty good way to do it and we think it turned out great.
Isaac had a lot of fun making it and gluing it and painting it.
I have to say it's one of my favorites that we have done.

He was so excited to show it to his friends and see how it would race.

He actually did pretty well in the races.
He finished 2nd or 3rd in most of his heats, but he actually came in 1st once and that made him so happy...but what made his night was getting the Coolest Car award.
It was a fun night and everything went well, but I have to say that I'm glad it's over for now and that we only have 2 more to go.

And the winner is...

GRACE!

During MSA (Maryland State Assessment) testing, the kids school decided to provide an incentive for the kids to behave well. Each day of testing that you had good behavior your name could be entered in a drawing for several items, including a scooter, a huge container of skittles, a jar of gummi bears, a plastic bat full of gumballs, and a jar of m&ms.

Well, on Friday they had the drawing and I had taken Grace and Anna out of school early to go to the dentist. When we got home from there was a message from the principal letting me know that Grace had won the scooter.

Grace, of course, was happy...but her first reaction didn't surprise me AT ALL!(and it shouldn't surprise you either if you know Grace)

After learning what she had won, she said, "Man! I really wanted to win the candy!"

Too bad little miss sweet tooth, you'll have to settle for this cool kneeboard scooter.

Friday was a beautiful day and she had a lot of fun playing with it...she even shared with her brothers and sister (but I had already put away my camera.)

Oh...and in case you are wondering, it was also pajama day at school that day :)

Isaac the Super Reader

Isaac's first grade class had a reading contest in March to see who could read the most books. Isaac was on fire! He read 79 books and came in 2nd place. The 1st place winner read 83.

His prize was, of course, a book,
he was very proud of himself.
Way to go Isaac!
