Damn Yankees

Grace and I went to see Damn Yankees at the Hale Center Theater in Orem. Grace had to see a musical for a Drama class assignment and I was interested in seeing it because of all the memories I have of being in it so many years ago.

I think they actually did a great job. I found myself comparing it to the production that I was in and liking different things about each one. It brought back a lot of memories! All in all it was a fun night.

That's the role I played in the MLT production of it back in 1996!
...and just for fun...

The Solar System according to Grace

For a school project, Grace had to make a solar system.
It could be made out of any material.
She decided to make hers out of produce.

I know she had fun painting the different planets and labeling them.
The Sun is the bottom part of a butternut squash
Mercury is a grape
Venus and Earth are clementines
Mars is a red potato
Jupiter is a mango
Saturn is an apple with part of the butternut squash as it's rings
Uranus and Neptune are red potatoes
and Pluto is a grape
Project was turned in on the 24th of January

Christmas Cowgirl

The elementary school had a Christmas assembly for the kids and each class sang a different song.
Anna's class sang Christmas for Cowboys. She looked so cute!

I didn't get to go to the assembly so I'm not sure what Grace and Isaac sang,
but I guess they didn't have to have any special outfits for theirs.

Some School Projects

Grace had to do a book report and create a "people poster" for school.
She chose to do it on Albert Einstein.
She enjoyed learning about him and we had a good time creating the poster.
(I think she had a better time wearing it and presenting her book report!)

Isaac had to choose a person to report on for Black History Month. His teacher sent home a list of suggestions and Isaac chose John Lee Love. He was an inventor. He invented the improved pencil sharpener and the improved plasterer's hawk. Isaac had to dress up like him and do a first person presentation about him. There was not a lot of information out there about him, but Isaac did a great job with his his report and presentation.

Anna had to choose someone famous for her 2nd grade wax museum project. She had to report on the person and then dress up like them. She chose Helen Keller. She did a great job and we had a good time researching and learning her. She was a pretty amazing person.
I got to go to Anna's class to see the wax museum. It was pretty cute. Each kid stood by their desk and had their person's name and then a button to push. You pushed the button and the kids would tell you about their person (in first person.)

Isaac: Star Author

Isaac was Star Author in his class last Friday.
He had to make a book and present it to his class. His book was called Candy Corn Trouble. We had a lot of fun coming up with the story and making the book.
And he had a great time reading it to his class and answering some questions.
He even handed out some candy corn to all the kids at the end.
This is his Star Author poster that got to hang in the classroom for the whole week.

Sweet Tooth

Grace was the Star Author in her class on Tuesday. This meant that she had to make a book over the weekend.
This was not hard for her, she was so excited. As soon as she got home from school on Friday, she sat right down and wrote and illustrated her story!
Grace with her teacher, Ms. Ricciardi.
She wrote a cute story about a pink shark named Sweet Tooth. Sweet Tooth eats candy fish instead of real fish, and her favorite fish are pink cotton candy fish.
When she gets her book back from school, I will try to scan it in so you can read it and see the pictures she drew.

She also had to make a poster about herself and presented both the poster and the book in her class yesterday.

The stars on the posters are:
Name - Grace Isom
Birthday - November 24, 2001
Something I like about myself - I'm a good artist
My goal for the future is - to be an archeologist
My favorite thing about school is - Lunch and math and Ms. Ricciardi
I am proud of myself for - being nice to others

There was time for questions and comments at the end of her presentation.
The kids seemed to really enjoy her story and her drawings.

She is such a creative girl!
Good job Gracie!

Is it nerdy to be a Science Fair winner?

Noah took second place in his category for the whole Middle school.
His project was on the effects of different drinks on our teeth. Here's a closer look at his before, during, and after pictures of each tooth.
This tooth was in water
this one was in apple juice
and this one was in Sprite.
Noah told me that it gave him one more reason to not like apple juice.

Dallin was one of the Grand Prize winners at his Elementary school.
The purpose of his project was to find out which brand of microwave popcorn left the most un-popped kernels. The generic brand left a lot more than the other brands we tried.
The kids had fun eating all the leftover materials too!

It looks like they will both get to advance to the county Science Fair.
So whether you think it's nerdy or not, we are so proud of them.
Good Job Boys!

Colonial Trade Fair

Noah took part in the Colonial Trade Fair at school. He and his partner Clayton chose to be Blacksmiths. They had a good time working on the project and an even better time presenting it.
And I was glad to be able to recycle an old Halloween costume.
Dallin was a pirate back in 2004 (he's so cute!) I was able to use the top and only had to unpick the cuffs (they were too small) so we could roll up the sleeves. I think Noah makes quite a handsome blacksmith!

Isaac's Float

Isaac had to build a float for a parade at school. The float had to demonstrate how an object moves. We built a lego slide for a marble and of course Isaac chose a clone trooper to be the keeper of the marble. It was fun building it together and Isaac had a great time showing it off at school.

The Adventures of Taco Kid

Dallin was star author at school and had to write a short book. He got to read it to his class. They all loved it. The book had to stay in the class library until the end of school. Dallin got to bring it home when school got out and I've been meaning to post it for a while. I just never got around to it, until today. so sit back and enjoy "The Adventures of Taco Kid" by Dallin Isom (with help from his mom.)
Dallin loves tacos, in case you couldn't tell.
I hope you enjoyed the story!

Dallin and Flat Stanley

Over Spring Break Dallin had an assignment to take Flat Stanley around with him. He had a good time coming up with things for Stanley to do. I think his favorite was when he taped him to a ball and threw him onto the roof and then caught him again. He also had a good time playing red rover, though Anna almost broke Stanley's arm when she ran through him. We also made sure to let Stanley call home and say hi. Dallin had a lot of fun with this assignment and Stanley seemed to enjoy himself too. Here's a glimpse at some of the things they did.
